I'm not sure where my love for old things comes from. Maybe it was from the memories of my wonderful Kline grandparents. Grandma Kline always passed around the "spoon jar" at family dinners and all the grandkids could pick their own spoon--all different, plates, too. Grandma and Papa Kline didn't own much that was new. I remember the fun of walking in the oak woods, climbing up in the barn loft, skating in the milk parlor.
All those great memories usually lead me to paint folk art portraits and landscapes. Lately, however, I seem to be heading in a new direction, albeit still utilizing not just the memories of old things, but the things themselves. Assemblage art holds a fascination for me. I think it's because I see it as part art and part recycling: using found objects that others may throw out to create something new and interesting. At any rate, it's a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy looking.
